Ashland Railway GP10 on the former high speed Erie main line

Описание к видео Ashland Railway GP10 on the former high speed Erie main line

On April 12, 2024, I was out railfanning and looking for something interesting to catch despite the rainy conditions. While in Mansfield watching NS, I heard the Ashland Railway AJ-1 job get track to go west from Ashland to Mansfield. I followed the former Erie main east from Mansfield and intercepted the train near Pavonia, Ohio. This video features a few clips of them along the Erie, working the transload facility northeast of Mansfield, passing the Ohio State Reformatory, and pulling into the yard at the Centerra grain elevator.

The Erie mainline used to see dozens of daily trains, with freights and passenger trains flying across Ohio via Lima, Kenton, Marion, Galion, Mansfield, Ashland, Akron, Kent, Warren, and Youngstown, but the majority of the line has long since been abandoned. Several small portions of the line are still operated by RJ Corman, the Ashland Railway, and the Akron Barberton Cluster.

Additionally, for any movie buffs viewing this video: if you recognized the scenes by the reformatory at Mansfield, that's because it was featured in the 1994 film "The Shawshank Redemption".
